A Going Away Party Play Reviews
A Going Away Party Play
Stage Scene LA- Somewhat Recommended
"...Keyanna Khatiblou pays tribute to her Iranian father and English mother while recounting the events leading up to and after the Iranian Revolution of 1979 amidst a party attended by four of her closest friends in A Going Away Party Play, and if the playwright’s approach is too all-over-the-place to be entirely successful, there is still much to recommend in this Boston Court Pasadena World Premiere."
Showmag- Highly Recommended
"...Despite the party games, playwright Keyanna Khatiblou’s saavy examination of the very real issues in American democracy unfold as Mina contrasts hopes for a democratic Iran after the fall of the Shah with our current political situation. To tell the story, the young cast moves easily from past to present, playing shifting roles. Mina’s friends Kate (Kodi Jackman) and Ryan (Nathan Mohebbi) effectively double as Mina’s parents, Caroline and Basir, while Mateo (Giovanny Camarena) and Debbie (Cindy Nguyen) play more characters. Mina herself doubles as her revolutionary aunt, Niloofar."

"...There are some genuinely engaging elements in playwright Keyanna Khatiblou’s drama, but the piece is sharply compromised by its uneasy, labored structure."
