White Guy On The Bus Reviews
Los Angeles Times- Somewhat Recommended
"...Neither McCorkle's poker-faced performance nor Stewart J. Zully's uninspired staging solve the play's sensationalistic exploitation of racial conflict. Ultimately, the melodrama sends more serious concerns to the back of the bus."
LA Splash- Recommended
"...Why is a well-heeled white guy taking a bus anywhere? Especially with luxury vehicles at his fingertips? And why take a bus which goes express to a local lock-up? Award-winning playwright Bruce Graham has taken racial issues and thrown them on their head in this thought-provoking tale of moral ambiguity, racial biases, and – to add some spice to the mix - revenge. Directed by Stewart J. Zully, WHITE GUY ON THE BUS is a complex and intriguing tale of what happens when black meets white."
Stage Scene LA- Highly Recommended
"...With racism once again being given permission to rear its hideous head in today's post-Obama America, the time could not be riper for Bruce Graham's riveting, conversation-provoking White Guy On The Bus to make its Los Angeles debut at The Road On Magnolia."
The Tolucan Times- Recommended
"...Director Stewart J. Zully deftly ensures his excellent actors make it all too real. Lighting and technical credits are stellar, evoking mood and ambience with effective simplicity."
Stage Raw- Somewhat Recommended
"...The best reason to see Bruce Graham's troubling and problem-filled White Guy on the Bus is Kacie Rogers's portrayal of a struggling African-American mom fending off the advances of a privileged white guy. The advances aren't sexual, but they do involve demands that compromise the integrity of Rogers's character, a nursing student named Shatique with a young son whose future means the world to her. Directed by Stewart J. Zully, this production highlights the weaknesses of a contrived script, and Rogers's projection of wiry strength and a forthright presence offers a much needed reprieve."
