The Unexpected Man
4348 Tujunga Ave. Studio City
This well-constructed comedy, by Tony Award-winning French playwright Yasmina Reza (Art, God of Carnage), is the simple enough story of two strangers on a train. Parsky is a well-known, but world-weary writer who's on his way to meet his daughter's much older fiancé. Martha just happens to have his latest book in her bag, though she isn't sure she wants to take it out and actually read it in front of him. But in separate monologues that reveal their inner thoughts, both author and admirer expose the rich unpredictability of their inner lives, and a simple journey from Paris to Frankfurt becomes a fascinating adventure of the mind. This new production takes the stage at Studio City's Two Roads Theatre.
