No, this isn't the setup to a classic Jewish joke -- it's the premise of The Rabbi's Mission, a dramedy that examines the thorny topic of what makes someone Jewish. Presented at T.U. Studios in North Hollywood, The Rabbi's Mission is a sequel to the highly successful The Rabbi and the Shiksa (but don't worry, you don't need to have seen the first play to enjoy this one!).

"...There are intelligent but overly lengthy philosophical discussions about religion and the Rabbi's tiresome shtik of talking to the portrait of his departed wife, Miriam, could be circumcised by half (at least). Nevertheless, Shulman has written and directed an amusing, multi-layered story, with some comical and squeaky clean dialogue, suitable for the whole mispoche."

Accessibly Live Off-Line - Recommended

"...This play, written and directed by local playwright Art Shulman, performs as a rather light and somewhat humorous soap opera. There aren't any such plot points that would make it as a heavily laden drama, but much of what is depicted would come across as realistic slices of domestic life. The action is presented within its dialogue, creating a rather talky play. But the talk is more within the realms of deep verbiage rather than idle chatter and thus, what is being expressed flows throughout. There isn't any padded conversation that some stage plays tend to use when it's the moment to stretch out a scene or three."
