The Life of Paul Robeson at Santa Monica Playhouse

The Life of Paul Robeson

Santa Monica Playhouse
1211 4th Street Santa Monica

Paul Robeson was a true Renaissance man and he was a prominent African-American activist during a time when that was a dangerous thing to be. Learn all about this fascinating character in Stogie Kenyatta's one-man show at Santa Monica Playhouse. This powerful and poignant performance tells the amazing true story of a man who could seemingly do anything. He played in the NFL while getting his law degree, then became famous as an entertainer after starring in Show Boat and Othello and recording deep-voiced renditions of spirituals like his famed "Ol' Man River." Robeson was also an outspoken civil rights activist who fought to end racism and oppression and became a target of the McCarthy hearings.
