Set in a fictional Indiana farming town during the Great Depression, Jim Leonard Jr.'s moving drama focuses on the friendship between an ex-preacher from Kentucky and a disturbed young boy. The boy wass deeply traumatized by a near-drowning in his past and as a result is deathly afraid of water, but ironically is also gifted with the ability to divine the location of water -- sorely needed in his drought-besieged community. As the bond between the two of them grows, the preacher works with the boy to overcome his fear. The townspeople, desperate for a spiritual leader, push the lapsed man of God into taking action too soon, with tragic consequences. Repertory East Playhouse brings this powerful fable to the Los Angeles area.
