Set inside the psychiatric ward of a former monastery tucked away somewhere in the Balkan mountains, The Colonel and the Birds finds six patients and a young doctor left to their fate in the midst of a raging war. After UN planes mistakenly drop military supplies in the compound, the patients take to roleplaying as soldiers, sending them on an unlikely emotional, mental and physical journey across Europe. This Highways Performance Space production of Bulgarian playwright Hristo Boytchev's play promises to take you on a highly physical, visual and emotional journey of your own, as it draws compelling connections between the horrors of the play and the present-day Syrian refugee situation.
