The Beauty Queen of Leenane

Mark Taper Forum
135 North Grand Ave. Los Angeles

The Beauty Queen of Leenane serves up a rich Irish stew of dark comedy and drama centering on a seriously dysfunctional mother and daughter. The plain, put-upon Maureen spends her present and foreseeable future caring for her infirm and domineering mother, Mag -- until a final chance at love appears. But Mag isn't about to let Maureen go so easily, setting off a shocking chain of events. This acclaimed tragicomedy by Martin McDonagh, the Oscar-winning writer of In Bruges, comes to the stage at L.A.'s Mark Taper Forum, courtesy of Dublin's Druid Theatre Company. Called "wildly funny, deeply affecting and grotesquely macabre," by the London Daily Telegraph, this production is helmed by Garry Hynes, who became the first woman ever to win the Best Direction Tony for this show's Broadway run.
