Sylvia Reviews
Broadway World- Recommended
"...Adding in three very different characters who add lots of comedy and insight into how to deal with a dog taking over your relationship is Matthew Marcy, first as a street-wise wise guy whose much larger Shepherd-mix Bowser manages to take advantage of Sylvia's first heat, with Tanna not overdoing it as Sylvia on fire, letting us see her pain after her actions lead to her neutering, complete with head cone. Marcy's warning to Greg to always remember to pay more attention to his wife and to remember that Sylvia is just a dog go unheeded. And as a new dog adopter myself, I completely understand how that can happen!"
LA Splash- Highly Recommended
"...This is a laugh-a-minute opus featuring four supremely talented actors at the top of their game. Tom (another dog fancier), Phyllis (that unfortunate visitor), and Leslie (the airy-fairy therapist) are all played by the fourth in the quartet, Matthew March. By the way, he makes a great 6'5" lady wearing, just to add some height, spike heels."
On Stage Los Angeles- Highly Recommended
"...High energy and highly entertaining, Sylvia is worth a trip to the Odyssey. It should be on the must see list for folks who are ready for two hours of just plain fun, with some thoughtful provocation driving it at a break neck pace."
Stage Raw- Recommended
"...Once you get past the initial strangeness of a human being playing a dog (and actually a dog, not a human pretending to be a dog), the play is a delightful meditation on jealously, marriage, and intimacy - all told through the lens of a dog's disruptive presence in the lives of two empty-nesters. For the most part, Tanne Frederick, doing double duty as director and the title character, has produced a production that delivers on the foibles and charms of the play."
