"...The 1993 romantic comedy "Sleepless in Seattle" has been turned into a stage musical that can best be described as pointless in Pasadena."

"...Alas, while stars Gleason and Schwartz are cute and sweet, and even individually charismatic, there's no way to root for their big romance when they're not even allowed to make eye contact until the show's final five minutes. They spend the rest of the running time singing separate songs on opposite ends of the stage, and even when director Sheldon Epps relents and lets them stand next to each other for a duet, they're so scared of acknowledging each other that it's like forcing a cat to look at itself in the mirror."

"...The direction of Playhouse artistic director Sheldon Epps keeps the plates spinning skillfully, and if it's not a knockout show, it does persistently entertain against all odds."

"....Just in case the audience doesn't know what the show is about, midway through the second act the creators insert a song about searching for connection. Even the most avid of theatergoers might, by this time, be wishing for connection with the exit doors."

"...All of this, of course, would be immaterial if the musical would renew our hope in the destiny of love. But this "Sleepless in Seattle" left me too worried about the state of the American musical to get goosepimply about romance."

"...Artistic director of the Playhouse, Sheldon Epps, directs his cast adroitly around John Iacovelli's multilevel set populated with projections and moving wagons. It's a Broadway musical, after all and this is one that the Playhouse will be proud of for a long time to come."

"...Sadly, though, West and Sloan's performances alone are not enough to redeem "Sleepless in Seattle – The Musical." The movie certainly has potential to be turned into a delightful musical, but this is not it."

"...Its performers are strong, and make their characters' humanity stand out, meaning that minor glitches in lyric or tech do not define the production because you are busy caring about the people. And that, after all, is what makes for a good, satisfying romantic story."

"...Several elements of the production don't match the top-notch performances and music. The choreography seems limp and unoriginal, and the big production numbers do little to power the show along. This may be an inherent problem with the concept, since the film itself is really more of a chamber piece, which might have been a more appropriate scope for this show. Nevertheless, kudos to this team for pulling off a solid musical adaptation of an enduring film."

"...Summing up, Sleepless in Seattle the musical will survive for a variety of reasons, particularly its eternal sense of hope and high heart. It's not perfect fare, but possesses great potential for a continued run."
