Macbeth
Long Beach Playhouse
5021 E. Anaheim St. Long Beach
Backstage superstition has long held that Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedy is cursed, since the Bard supposedly used real witches' spells in the text -- and thus, the name of the work must never be uttered inside the theater. The brave thespians of the Long Beach Playhouse, however, are unafraid to take on what's now known as "the Scottish play," the intensely dramatic story of an ambitious general spurred on by his wife and three witches, who murders the popular King Duncan and must then contend with his conscience and a growing and deadly conspiracy.
