I, Caligula

Secret Rose Theatre
11246 Magnolia Blvd North Hollywood

When a group of insane asylum inmates attempt to mount a musical production of the story of Rome's most notorious leader, mayhem ensues in I, CALIGULA: An Insanity Musical. Parodying fascist dictators past and present, the play sees the inmates' lives parallel, intermingle and unravel in unexpected ways along with the characters they are portraying. With lyrics from Kai Cofer and music from Cody T. Gillette, I, CALIGULA is a musical trip between fantasy, reality and madness.

  Review Round-Up

LA Weekly - Not Recommended

"...Were this a spoof in the spirit of Waiting for Guffman, the agonizing, overwrought playing would begin to make sense, but by all accounts this is a serious outing. High production values are far from expected in small theater, but some sense of effort is."

"...Author Kai Cofer was attempting to make a forceful comedy but with the productions tempo, musical score and pacing for me it was more of a forceful operatic piece."
