Legendary novelist Mick Stockton left his three daughters a house in Cape Cod, control over his books and a whole lot of issues. Years later, the men in their lives struggle to be part of this elusive family's legacy. It's not always easy keeping up with the whip-smart and very funny Stockton Sisters, especially during a weekend filled with dramatic confrontations and surprising confessions. But good scotch helps. And, in the end, what matters most is family in this new play by the writer whose work Time Out New York called "zesty, muscular and quick-witted."

"...Everything unfolds naturalistically on Tony Fanning's beautiful set, which transforms efficiently from Cape Cod kitchen to back yard to roadside and ocenaside. David Kay Mickelsen's costumes give us plenty of hints about character. Director Gaye Taylor Upchurch finds ways to navigate through the story's occasional dead spots; though the show's running time is only slightly more than two hours, the script seems slightly padded. With sisterly catfights, a little bit goes a long way and too much can be excruciating to watch. It starts to feel too much like real life."

"...That may not happen at SCR which, if the performance I attended is a reliable measure, has been directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch to play at breakneck speed and piercing decibel levels. These sisters, it seems, are incapable of coming together without jockeying for position and competing to see who can yell the loudest. Add to that a bad habit of continually overlapping conversation and it just about guarantees that you won't be able to follow much of what they're saying to each other either. That appears to have been a directorial choice and it does a large disservice to the playwright, to say nothing of the audience."
