She's escaped her violent husband and the volatile political climate of her native Haiti, but for Sula, harder times are still ahead. After she drifts ashore in Miami on an old rubber tire, her belly 11 months swollen with an unborn son, Sula finds shelter in a ramshackle apartment building filled with a ragtag group of refugees and misfits. But this temporary respite is short-lived, when Sula's husband comes hunting for her and her baby, and Sula realizes she must banish the demons of her past if she can ever hope for a brighter future. "...A supernaturally murky tone, enhanced by Derrick McDaniel's excellent lighting design, predominates. Given the right approach, Augustin's dramatic perambulations may have retained the power to fascinate. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of a committed cast, director Andre Barron's over-the-top staging never pitches Augustin's daring oddity into the credible human context that could make this feverish "Dream" linger."

The relationships are clearly delineated, and what humor there is (mostly from Chandler's sarcastic and sardonic wit) more than offsets the seriousness of the writer's dialogue.
