This mysterious and beautiful new play by Nick Payne (Constellations) speaks to our yearning to know ourselves, and our desire to be known and recognized by others. Directed by Katharine Farmer (The Nibroc Trilogy at Rubicon/West End), Incognito is a rich tapestry weaving together several stories (some based on true events), about memory and identity. Thomas Stolz Harvey steals Albert Einstein's brain in hopes of discovering the elusive nature of genius. Henry (Patient HM) has lost his memory following an operation, but recalls his deep affection for his wife, whom he greets anew each time he sees her. Martha is a scientist who understands the workings of the mind but struggles in matters of the heart.

"...The fictional third narrative pillar concerns a cynical, self-destructive divorced neuropsychologist (Betsy Zajko) whose love affair with a younger female lawyer (Adams) is undercut by a lack of honesty. The romance is well-played, but two separate pathology subplots involving confabulation and amnesia unnecessarily muddle the story. Combining them might have served the same dramatic purpose. Payne would likely resist any streamlining that might make life easier for the hard-working brain of the humble viewer, but at least the dazzling conceptual juggling act rewards the strict attention it demands, peeling away layers of intellectual abstraction to discover unexpected beauty and wonder."
