"...The play is way over-the-top, much too verbose for its own good, and takes far too long to get to its climaxes, but there is power in LaBute's set-ups that allow tough directors and actors to chew and explore his material. Larry Moss, an accomplished acting coach to the stars, and a fine director of stage, seemingly understands the playwright's angst, but makes most of his mistakes here in his casting of the two leads."

"...The West Coast premiere of LaBute's In a Dark Dark House at the Matrix Theatre by Broken Hand Productions is a misbegotten presentation of an undercooked play, unpleasant to sit through for all the wrong reasons."

"...This production of In a Dark Dark House is theatre at its best!"

"...It's rare than a single performance can sink an otherwise mostly fine production, but such is the case in the Los Angeles Premiere of Neil LaBute's In A Dark Dark House, a play consisting of three extended two-actor scenes revolving around a central character who only departs the stage during set changes. Unfortunately, since Aaron McPherson is not up to the challenges of bringing Terry to real, three-dimensional life, In A Dark Dark House fails to get the Matrix Theatre Guest Production it deserves."

"...It's all been done before, and no amount of frantic running in and out of doors is going to bring this material back to life."

"...In A Dark Dark House is an interesting work but certainly not one of the greats… Notably absent in this complex drama about the legacy of child abuse is the edgy, ironic humor LaBute is known for presenting. Additionally, the play, with its idiosyncratic stilted dialogue, suffers from a bumpy rhythm and the current production at the Matrix, directed by Larry Moss, never quite gains an even stride. John Iacovelli's scenic design serves the three distinct acts well and the scene changes are elegantly and efficiently handled."

"...The enormously talented Director Larry Moss, a multi-award winner, runs a tight ship, letting this high tension drama percolate through our veins, non-stop. He draws unforgettable performances from his three actors."

"...I love the script, but I felt this particular production didn't entirely work. Stagnant acting as well as distracting staging stole from the writing. There was a lack of commitment from the actors, and they didn't go deep enough into their characters. I wanted my heart to ache from the words coming from the stage, and they just didn't resonate sufficiently."
