Native American playwright Lynn Riggs infused his 1931 hit play with a perfect mix of drama, romance and America's most popular folk music. The courtship between a rancher and his gal is threatened by a menacing farmhand and turns violent, jeopardizing the young lovers' future. Filled with vivid characters, colorful language, traditional songs and cowboy ballads, the play that inspired Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! is rarely performed in its original form, yet remains as compelling now as when it first burst onto the American stage.

But this production ambles amiably and dramatically along where appropriate in a folksy way that WGTB founder, mid-Westerner Will Geer, would likely have felt right at home with "� especially as his TV alter ego, Grandpa Walton "� and this Lilacs is quite enjoyable."

"...The directoral team was the same as for the previous day's As You Like It - director Ellen Geer (FB) assisted by Jonathan Blandino/FB, and they did a wonderful job of bringing out the folksy in the characters, as well as the realism.
