Good Grief Reviews

"...But these quibbles don't dull the play's promise. The echo of Charlie Brown's famous exclamation in the title may be entirely coincidental. But like Charles M. Schulz's comic strip, "Good Grief" offers distinctive but universal characters and a bleak yet comforting outlook on the human condition that hint at a long future."

"...Anyanwu's writing must be part autobiographical since it is very apparent how tied to the story and central character she is, although she claims it was written for another actress. I cannot imagine anyone else being able to assume the character as well as she does. Her writing style is not chronological, so at times I did find myself confused a bit when characters appeared out of order with the play's action, centered on her grief as well as in the other characters' lives. But eventually, just like Nkechi's life, their grief steps aside and everything falls into place."

"...Director Patricia McGregor, whose background includes dance and cabaret, also has a rare touch. She has perfectly cast the show and led every member of the ensemble to sensitive results, established fluid movement between units of the narrative, seen to the rhythm of the entire work, while the production's design elements are integrated in a way that makes the most of TCG's considerable resources."
