The phrase "dead ringer" takes on a whole new meaning in Dead Man's Cell Phone, the imaginative romantic comedy from Pulitzer finalist Sarah Ruhl. An incessantly ringing phone chips away at the peaceful ambiance in an otherwise quiet café until Jean, the woman sitting at the next table, has had enough and gets up to intervene. Shocked to discover that the phone's owner is dead, she answers the call herself -- and soon finds herself dating the dead man's brother, sharing cosmopolitans with his widow and meeting his mistress for a mysterious rendezvous. Jean's odd odyssey leads her to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption and the need to connect in a world obsessed with technology. Long Beach Playhouse presents this insightful work about how society memorializes the dead -- on their Studio Theatre stage.
